Our springs aren’t fed by rain from last winter. They rise from a deep regional groundwater system beneath the Mojave, carrying water that entered the ground tens of thousands of years ago — heated deep in the Earth and pushed to the surface along one of California’s great fault lines.

Born on a fault line

Tecopa Hot Springs rises along a fault in the Furnace Creek Fault Zone, part of the Death Valley – Furnace Creek Fault System — second in length only to the San Andreas. The heat doesn’t come from volcanic activity; it comes from water circulating deep underground before the fault drives it back to the surface.

Flowing on its own

Groundwater across the neighboring Nevada basins is already over-allocated, with more water rights on paper than the aquifer can sustain. Our springs are artesian: natural pressure brings the water to the surface with zero pumping.

A system under pressure

The report finds the Shoshone–Tecopa groundwater system in a period of very slow decline. Right next door, the Borehole — which feeds the bulrush marsh where the endangered Amargosa vole lives — shows a long-term decrease in flow. That makes conservation work here urgent, and we intend to be an active partner in it, not a bystander.

Irreplaceable by nature

Ancient, slow-recharging water like this can’t be replaced on any human timescale. The springs and the Amargosa River ecosystem they feed are one of a kind, and taking care of them is part of what it means to run this place.

Local wildlife

You’re sharing the springs with rare neighbors.

The warm water that makes Tecopa a place to soak also keeps a few tiny, one-of-a-kind species alive in the middle of the desert. Two of them live right here on the property.

Amargosa pupfish

Critically imperiled

Cyprinodon nevadensis

Barely two inches long, these fish survive in warm desert springs and a few short stretches of the Amargosa River. Tecopa once had its own subspecies, the Tecopa pupfish, which lived in the outflows of these very hot springs. It was declared extinct in 1981 — the first animal ever removed from the Endangered Species list because it was gone for good.

Microtus californicus scirpensis

A small, short-tailed vole found only in the spring-fed bulrush marshes around Tecopa and Shoshone — nowhere else on Earth — with an estimated population of just 500 individuals. It has been protected as an endangered species since 1984.

Help protect them

  • Stay on paths and out of marshes and spring outflows.
  • Keep pets leashed and away from wetland edges — cats indoors.
  • Rinse off soaps and lotions before soaking, and never use them in the pools or outflows.
  • Look, don’t touch: never catch, feed, or release fish or other animals.

Do I need a reservation to stay at the campground?

Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season (October–April). Walk-ins are welcome when space allows, but reserving ahead ensures you get your preferred RV or tent site.

Are the hot springs open to the public?

Yes! Our mineral-rich hot springs are open to both overnight guests and day visitors. Campground guests receive discounted or included access with their stay, while day passes can be purchased at the office.

What amenities are included with RV sites?

Our RV sites offer full or partial hookups, access to clean restrooms and showers, Wi-Fi, picnic areas, and use of our fire pits. Long-term guests also enjoy discounted hot springs passes and extended-stay conveniences.

Is Tecopa pet-friendly?

Absolutely. Well-behaved pets are welcome at our campground and in most outdoor areas. We simply ask that pets remain on a leash and owners clean up after them to help keep the desert pristine.

What should I pack for my stay?

Desert weather can shift quickly — pack layers for cool nights, sunscreen for sunny days, and plenty of water. If you plan to soak, don’t forget a towel and sandals!
